Step back in time and experience America’s pastime as it was played in the 1860s!
Long before modern stadiums, bright lights, and home run fences, base ball (as it was spelled then!) was a gentleman’s game rooted in sportsmanship, community, and tradition. Players took the field in vintage uniforms, followed original rules, and played not for glory—but for the love of the game.
In this early era, there were no gloves, underhand pitching was the norm, and getting a runner “out” could be as simple as catching a ball on the first bounce. Teams prided themselves on honor and fair play, with umpires often relying on the players themselves to make honest calls.
Join us at Richmond Hill (Soccer Field 6) on Sunday, July 12 for a double header starting at 1:00pm as we bring history to life with a spirited 1860s base ball game! Watch as our teams recreate the sights, sounds, and excitement of a bygone era. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a baseball fan, or just looking for a unique afternoon of fun, this is an experience you won’t want to miss. Geneseo Celebrities and Townspeople will be taking on a local professional vintage 1860’s base ball club, the Oregon Ganymedes, from Oregon, Illinois.
Bring a lawn chair, gather your friends and family, and enjoy an afternoon where history and sport meet on the field.
Play ball… the 1860s way!
